Just started American Skeet - my hold points feel all wrong

I'm brand new to American Skeet and just shot my first round last weekend. I was using my dad's old Remington 1100 with a Skeet choke, shooting 1 oz of #9 shot at 1200 fps. I felt like I was always behind the targets, especially on stations 3, 4, and 5. I tried holding where the club pro suggested but still missed most crossing shots.

Welcome to the sport! That Remington 1100 is a classic skeet gun - great choice to start with. For stations 3, 4, and 5, try holding about halfway between the houses instead of at the edge. On station 4 especially, I hold just below the high house window and break the target as it passes the center stake. Your load sounds perfect for skeet - #9s at 1200 fps is what I shoot too. What part of the target are you seeing when you pull the trigger - leading edge, middle, or trailing edge?
