History
Original Springfield Armory was primary U.S. military firearms center 1777-1968. Construction began 1794, first firearms produced 1795. Manufactured muskets, carbines, M1 Garand, 1911-A1, M14 for major conflicts but not shotguns. Closed 1968. Modern Springfield Armory, Inc. founded 1974 by Bob Reese, unrelated to original, produces M1A rifles and XD/Hellcat handguns, not shotguns.
