History

Founded in 1856 by brothers Löb and Moses Simson after purchasing steelhammer works in Suhl (1854). Produced guns and barrels. In 1936, Hitler's government forced Jewish family to flee under 'aryanization', trustee-controlled merger formed Berlin Suhler Waffen (BSW). Critics noted BSW meant 'Bis Simson Wiederkommt' (until Simson returns). Renamed Gustloff-Werke 1939. Post-WWII operated as Ernst Thälmann until 1968 merger.
