German manufacturer of hunting weapons in Suhl, Thuringia, first to industrially manufacture over-and-under guns, producing bolt-action rifles, double rifles, drillings and shotguns.
History
Founded September 1, 1898 by three brothers - Albert Oskar, Karl Paul, and Gebhard Merkel - in Suhl, Germany. Began manufacturing weapons in 1905. First to industrially manufacture over-and-under guns. Based in Suhl, historic center of firearms manufacturing. Subsidiary of UAE company Caracal International since 2007.
