History

Founded in 1949 by Joyce Hornady in Grand Island, Nebraska, Hornady Manufacturing Company began when Joyce used a converted Pacific triplex press to manufacture .30 caliber bullets in a small garage. The company grew from handmade bullets to become a major American ammunition manufacturer known for innovation. Hornady revolutionized ammunition with products like the V-Max bullet (1994), SST (Super Shock Tip) technology, and Leverevolution ammunition for lever-action rifles. The company entered the shotshell market with premium offerings including SST Slugs featuring patented FTX technology, Critical Defense buckshot for home defense, and specialized law enforcement loads. Hornady's shotgun ammunition applies the same innovative approach that made their rifle and handgun ammunition industry leaders. The company remains family-owned and operated in Grand Island, employing over 400 people and exporting to 80+ countries worldwide.
