History
Founded April 27, 1922 in Anoka, Minnesota by Charles L. Horn, Federal Premium has grown from a small shotshell manufacturer to the world's leading ammunition producer. The company revolutionized ammunition in 1976 by creating the Premium line - the first factory ammunition using boutique components previously available only to handloaders. Federal pioneered numerous innovations including non-toxic steel shot, FLITESTOPPER waterfowl technology, and Tungsten Super Shot (TSS). Part of the Czechoslovak Group since November 2024 (acquired through Vista Outdoor), Federal operates a 175-acre manufacturing facility in Anoka, producing rifle, shotshell, handgun, and rimfire ammunition. Federal ammunition has dominated competitive shooting, being the overwhelming choice of Olympic and world championship clay target shooters.
