History

Charles Osborne established as gunmaker at 1 Litchfield Street, Birmingham in 1838. In 1854 moved to 12 & 13 Whittall Street, traded as C Osborne & Co. By 1885 added offices at 7 Whitehall Place, London; 47 George Street, Edinburgh and Blythswodd, Glasgow. In 1892 London office moved to 2 Great Scotland Yard. In 1895 took additional premises at 16-17 Sand Street, Birmingham. In 1896 became limited company. Prolific manufacturers of guns, rifles and pistols for South African and Indian markets; their range of large bore big game rifles particularly double rifles was one of widest available. In 1928 London shop closed, company bought out by Skimin & Wood, also of Birmingham, in 1929.
