History

Rosson family was major Birmingham gunmaking clan dating to 1811. Francis Rosson in business in Whitechapel 1811, Charles Rosson (I) born 1816 in Whitechapel, may have moved to Birmingham before 1837 when Rosson & Son recorded. Charles I in business at 56 Hatchett Street, Birmingham 1840-1856. Family had premises in Warwick, Derby and Norwich. In 1906 Charles Stanley Rosson came to Norwich from Derby where he, his father and older brother worked as gunmakers. Purchased old established business, quickly building reputation for quality guns exported worldwide. Used brand names Eclipse (top range), Norfolk, Co, expert, Acme, Covert. Early 1950s moved to Bedford Street. Rosson died 1956. Takeover completed 1 April 1965, Rosson name retained six months, changed to Gallyon & Sons (Norwich) Ltd in 1966.
