History
Founded by Joshua Stevens in 1864 in Chicopee Falls, MA with backers W.B. Fay and James Taylor. Introduced .22 Long Rifle round. By 1902 advertised as 'largest producers of sporting arms in world'. Purchased by New England Westinghouse (1915), then Savage Arms (April 1, 1920). Chicopee Falls plant torn down 1960, production moved to Savage facilities. Brand dropped 1991, revived 1999 for low-cost firearms.
